Here are the resources I consider essential to learn how to speak Esperanto.
FAVOURITE COURSES TO GIVE YOUR ESPERANTO A BOOST
Duolingo – Did you know that Duolingo has an Esperanto course? If you’re very busy, you can use this program to learn Esperanto from your smartphone in your downtime.
Lernu – This excellent website has three different Esperanto courses, depending on your learning style. I recommend you start with Ana Pana. The site also has live chat, an active forum, and the best Esperanto dictionary available.
Kurso de Esperanto – free downloadable program that teaches you the grammar of Esperanto from start to finish.
HelloTalk – is a smartphone app that connects you with Esperanto speakers for free. You can use it to send text messages and audio clips. After you sign up, message the team with the code “Fi3M” to get the premium features free for three months!
ESPERANTO SPEAKING TOOLS: PRACTICE WITH OTHER SPEAKERS
Speak from day one is my approach to any new language. I have one tool I recommend for this:
Italki – connects you with Esperanto speakers for spoken practice on Skype. You can pay Esperanto tutors for (affordable) one-to-one video lessons, or find a free language exchange partner!
ESPERANTO LISTENING AND PRONUNCIATION RESOURCES
Radio Verda – a site full of downloadable podcasts. This site is no longer updated, but the existing database has valuable material for learning naturally-spoken, fun Esperanto.
Forvo – find out how any Esperanto word is pronounced. Just type the word you’re looking for into the search bar in Esperanto!
ESPERANTO LEARNING WEBSITES YOU MUST BOOKMARK TODAY
You’ll return to these resources again and again in your Esperanto study sessions.
Lernu’s Dictionary – The built-in dictionary on lernu.net is the very best Esperanto dictionary around. It translates Esperanto to and from over 40 languages!
Esperanto Facebook group – An active public Facebook group of Esperanto speakers. Great for sharing materials, asking questions, finding language partners, or just practising your Esperanto.

Need help getting started? I designed this course to guide you through your first week:
Conversation Countdown – Have your first conversation in Esperanto in just seven days. This is one of our most popular courses, and with good reason, because you’ll get results fast.
