Benny's next mission | General discussion | Forum
I don't know if there's a topic about this already, but I was just wondering what you guys think Benny's next mission is going to be. So far we know:
*It has to be done in the US, specifically the West coast. But it will only be done on the west coast because that's where Benny chose to go. He could theoretically do it in any part of the US.
*It's not a Native American language.
*It's not a constructed language (well, technically he said it's "not related" to Klingon, which I took to mean it's not a conlang)
*It's not a programming language.
*It's not ASL.
*It's not Pennsylvania Dutch, Yiddish, Louisiana Creole, Cajun, or Hawaiian. He also said it's not related to these.
*Remember, not only is the US the best place for him to learn the language, it is the ONLY place.
My initial guesses were Cajun and Hawaiian, but those are out. So what do you guys think? I don't think it's going to be a regional language or dialect (like Gullah, or things like that) because he said he could do it "absolutely anywhere" in the US. So now my only other guess is…American English? I usually have some guesses for these things, but I'm stumped on this one.
Also, I think the latest clue is very interesting: "I can do this absolutely anywhere in America, but once I choose the location I have to stay there! As such, I'll be travelling the west coast; starting in Seattle and working my way down to San Diego over about 6 weeks. Since I have chosen THAT part of the states, I *can't* do it anywhere else."
To me this makes it sound like the language he learns depends on where he goes. Like he would learn a different one had he chosen the East Coast, for example. Just a thought…
(By the way, now I have this funny image in my head of him learning some stereotypical California "valley girl" type dialect. )
Edit: I know this is long already, but I just realized, the mission doesn't necessarily have to be a language, does it? Because remember one time his mission was "speak any language anywhere" or something like that.

But remember he said he could do it absolutely anywhere. Also, Ilocano would best be learned in the Philippines, I believe. And besides, I don't think a white guy coming and trying to speak Chicano English would go over too well…
I still think the mission is most likely not a specific language.
