Hi everyone,

I've been trying to up my Italian and Spanish skills and also refresh my French and German from school days. I have recently been using duolingo and that has really got my hunger back for this and I don't want to lose it or let it go this time and I want to get some qualifications.

Is there anywhere in particular that you all find these courses/exams that are aligned with the CEFR or is it a case of looking out for individual courses ?

I am a bit pressed for time now, so my post is going to be rather brief even though I have experience passing exams organised by four member institution of ALTE. The Association of Language Testers in Europe is a network of institutions offering certification according to the CEFR:

http://www.alte.org/membership

I believe ALTE members to have the best credibility and recognition in general.

As to "all these courses", I would take course certificates issued by private, independent language schools with more than just a pinch of salt – which motivation can they possibly have not to overestimate the level their students reach after their courses? The advantages of proud students receiving those certificates (who'll be happy to promote their school: "I reached C1 level in just x weeks!") should outweigh the loss of credibility in most cases (since most language schools are too unknown anyway to have any reputation to lose when it comes to assessing language skills objectively).

PS: Have you read Benny's post on language certificates yet?

Thank you so much. I can't believe I missed Benny's post, I was sure I had looked !

I totally agree about the independent schools, these days I'd imagine it is fairly easy to knock up a quick website which looks very convincing or to have various claims from former pupils, which is why I posted !
