OfflineIt has been awhile since you posted this and so far, no replys. I haven't been on the forum for a long time myself, but here's one thought. This comment is about Heisig's book being the best way to learn the kanji. It may be the fastest way to get rough meanings for the needed Japanese kanji, but it has serious drawbacks. He groups them according to what he calls "primitive elements." They are roughly equivalent to the traditional radicals. I went through about 1000 kanji in a relative short period of time, but have since forgotten them. If you use his method for meanings, then you need volume II for pronunciation. I suggest you consider Henshall's book A Guide to Remembering Japanese Characters. It follows the Japanese method of introducing the kanji so that the more common kanji are learned first. It also gives you pronunciations, meanings, sample words, history and mnemonics.
