I just started using it tonight, I completed the first section of A1 level. I'm a complete beginner. I noticed that at the beginning I couldn't understand the directions for what I was supposed to be doing by reading them without translations, by the end I could look them over and have a good idea of what they were telling me.

You can select directions in English! I did it! :)

This is the greatest online course for beginners. I made a lot of research and didn't find anything better. Please, stick with it! :)

I'll have started using Deutsche Welle intensively by the end of the school year. My level is about an A1-A2. I had tried the site before, but haven't immersed in it.But also heard this is one of the best sites for free.Just out of curiosity, I have done the A1.1 test and got an 85% overall result.

Guys, I also would have a question: How do you divide the lessons up? How many lessons are you planning to do daily?

I completed the test for 1.1 a few minutes ago and I have to say I profoundly disagree with it's assessment of my understanding of the language to this point. I've been through 1.1 twice now, the second time because it didn't save my progress the first time and I thought it was required that you finish the exercises in their entirety to take the test and move on. The second time through I noticed that I didn't always know what the correct answer meant, but I knew it was the correct answer because I remembered it from entering it a week ago, which seems to point towards using this program for review as being pointless.
Thus far I couldn't express myself in German in any meaningful way if my life absolutely depended on it, at times I forget how to even introduce myself.

It says my listening comprehension is 100%, that is absolutely demonstrably false, if anything I can pick out the bits and pieces I understand and get the gist of what is being said but I have a terrible time of even doing that if there are words I am unfamiliar with in a phrase I'd personally rate myself around 65% in terms of listening comprehension and that's being generous, being correct at a rate that is only slightly better than chance is pretty bad for the effort I've put in.

It put my reading comprehension at 60%, but reading is actually where I do best with the language , I am far better off reading than listening although to say I was skilled at it would be a huge overstatement.

94% Vocabulary usage, not even close, my vocabulary feels just as limited as when I started and as I stated earlier I couldn't use it in any meaningful way to express myself. I can regurgitate the words back into the program fine but that doesn't demonstrate any understanding of their meaning.

90% Grammar Comprehension, this one made me laugh, I wouldn't even say I have a tenuous grasp of how grammar in German works, I only know when I think a sentence looks correct and as with my listening I only do slightly better than chance.

20% Language production is the only thing I do agree with, and I don't even think that is an improvement from where I was before I started.

Overall the only noticeable improvement I've made in the language is my reading ability and to an extent my listening ability, my vocabulary (the stuff I understand without looking it up) is still largely made up of words I picked up long before starting this program.

If I am doing something fundamentally wrong with how I'm using this program by all means let me know so I can fix it, because learning the language is still my goal.

I am using this program, and I feel like I have a love/hate relationship with it.

In one sense, it's trying to re-create an immersion program, and it's frustrating because I wonder just how much I am supposed to understand.  On the other hand, I'm impressed with how much I can understand, even though it frustrates me :)

My plan has been – go through A 1.1, then do it again.  Go through A 1.2, then do it again.  I just finished my first run-through of A 2.1 (and it is TOUGH), but I'm ready to start it again.

I remember thinking A 1.1 was tough, and now I think it is easy.  So I'm making progress!

I didn't like how, when taught the past tense, regular verbs were reviewed once, then irregular verbs once, and then … well, you should know it!  There isn't enough reinforcement of things, but then, I guess the course would be 100 lessons long if they did that.  That's why I'm going through each portion a second time.

I also have a hard time hearing what people are saying sometimes.  I know they are trying to give you the chance to hear real conversations, at a normal speed, but I need it slowed down a bit more in A 2.1, so that it is slower like the previous sections.

Good luck!

Oh, and to answer another question … I try to go through one lesson each day.  So A 1.1 has 5 Lessons, with multiple exercises in each lesson, and I would try to go through one full Lesson each day, completing one level in a week, and then the next week review the same section again.

One thing I would recommend with Deutsch Interaktiv or any online course is don't use this as your only resource to learn German, make sure you are using lots of other resources as well.  Use flashcard to learn vocab, listen to songs (I recommend Disney ones) in German, listen to podcasts (Deutsche-Welle has great beginner ones) and *gasp* even read a grammar book.  Branch out and try to use as many resources as possible.  A concept you don't understand in one resource may be explained more to your liking by another.

I've been using the Deutsch Interaktiv course for the past month and have recently completed A1.1. I find the course to be an excellent resource. I really enjoy the structured learning that it provides; however, there is no way that one can completely grasp the grammar concepts it is teaching without outside resources. The lessons thus far have been rather easy, in my opinion, but that is only because I have previously studied German. I'm not sure how accurate the course is in gauging one's skill level. Can anyone attest to that?
