OfflineHi, I'm a new user and I've been casually learning Spanish for a couple of months, but I thought that the middle of the year would be a good excuse to start taking things a bit more seriously. So, over the next few months my mission will be to spend at least three hours a day interacting with the language in some way, through podcasts (I've been working through the first level of Rocket Spanish, which I've been enjoying), flashcards, and I've just started including Duolingo (the value of which I'm still not sure about, but the levelling and such does help with motivation and it acts as something to change things up).
As for my speaking practice, I'm an English teacher and have some Spanish-speaking students. Obviously, I can't talk Spanish with them at school (or I'll lose my job), but I'll try to organise some time after school when I can speak Spanish with them, maybe in exchange for some beers (don't worry, they're all adults).
I would love to be able to learn from movies and TV,but it's still quite a bit beyond me. My aim is to be able to watch (and understand) movies and TV in Spanish by the end of September.

OfflineProgress: End of week one
I didn't quite manage to reach my goal of three hours of practice a day. Some days I got there, but others I couldn't. The whole experience is teaching me the value of prioritising my time more effectively. I do have a few hours now, so I won't write much here so I can head back to practising.
I'm at 58% complete of the Rocket Spanish beginner's course, and my aim is to finish that by this time next week, so I can start on the intermediate course. I screwed up the order of the beginner's course, doing all the listening parts first and ignoring the bonus materials (extra vocab and grammar), so with the intermediate course I'll try to tackle them all together. I know lots of people say to ignore the grammar of languages early on when you're learning, but as an English language teacher myself, I love grammar and don't see it as the boring stuff you have to wade through. I understand why other people feel differently though.
