OfflineHi, I'm Blaze and this is my language mission. This is my first foreign language, not including Spanish in school & a lot of failed attempts at learning Japanese. I'm learning Esperanto, mainly from Benny's advice about it being a good starter language. I plan to learn others as well, planning on restarting Japanese also Brazilian Portuguese, Russian & Hindi are looking interesting. My main aim is for literary fluency (I like to read and I always wanted to read books in there original language, I also plan on learning some dead languages like Latin, Ancient Greek, Old & Middle English & Sanskrit. Esperanto was originally a practice language but I'm enjoying it for itself and will probably take it to an advanced level and maybe even travel to an Esperanto conference.
Anyway, the mission. I want to be able to hold a decent conversation with someone in Esperanto and read simple novels. Ideally in 3 months because I want to start another language asap.

OfflineI'm thinking about learning Esperanto myself so this will be interesting to follow.
I had a quick look at the grammar a few days ago and it seems extremely simple (which obviously is the point with the language). I'm sure the grammar will be understandable from the first minute and then it just takes time to remember it – could it take two weeks? After learning some affixes you can combine it with a frequency list (here's 650 common words) and you'll suddenly have a vocabulary of roughly 6500 words! Learn 20 words a day and you'll have an amazing vocabulary within a month. Learn 40 words a day and you'll know roughly 6500 words within two weeks! Once you have that it's all about repeating and spending as much time as possible reading, speaking and writing so you get the fluency you're looking for.
I'm sorry for the guesswork but I'm just amazed over Esperanto as a language.

OfflineOk… sorry for the long silence, I've been super busy and only now got to post…
So far what I've done is complete the Mi Estas Komencanto (I am a beginner) course on Lernu, I was doing the Bildoj Kaj Demandoj (Pictures & Questions) course but dropped it for the moment… I might pick it up again later. I'm currently half way through the Ana Pana course.
I haven't added much to Lang 8 yet, just got 2 posts. I've also not been able to chat much either. I have been trying Moses McCormick's FLR technique for getting my speaking up. I have also been getting the Esperanto beginner texts from LingQ and putting them in LWT along with the audio. I also keep the audio on my iPod and the the text written in a notebook. I write them out for 2 reasons firstly I can't afford ink for my printer and secondly following deka glossai's advice on how a notebook would be less offensive to read than printed stuff in company.
I also have been posting stuff on Rhino Spike which is a great resource for getting texts from audio or audio for texts.
I did used to do the Live Mocha course but dropped it.
Anyway that's an update on my current level… sorry that it's not detailed enough… I'll try to be more precise and regular
