OfflineMy goal is to review my French and learn enough German to place into advanced courses in both. I'll take the placement test in August. This way instead of wasting time on lower level courses I can get straight to the conversational, composition, and literature courses.
Now that I've put it in writing I have no choice but to follow through on it!
Cheers!

OfflineGo for it! That's basically what I did with Hebrew last year before starting the 5 month intensive course (4 hrs a day, 5 days a week). I went through an entire beginners book, start to finish (I didn't write the answers to the exercises, but I did do all the exercises in my own head) to review the grammar and vocab, and also did the beginners course on LiveMocha for the feedback on writing (I didn't know about Lang-8 at the time) and pronunciation and to get myself back into studying it and all that definitely helped me get placed in the advanced class rather than the intermediate one.
I'm not saying you have to go right back to basics (although it's definitely good to be clear on those) rather than pushing yourself, but being in the headset for the languages is certainly important.
Most important, though, is to take any opportunity you can get to speak to people in your languages. That's easier for me since I was learning (and am now improving/keeping up) the majority language here, but I get to use French fairly regularly too. I even have phases of specifically getting out my crochet/knitting on the bus just because it gets people asking me what I'm making and thus conversing with me. Even if you just have more conversations in English, it's good practice for speaking to strangers in other languages, where you'll have an extra nervousness.

OfflineThat's what I plan on doing. I have teacher's editions for my old college French book and workbook. I found this site with all sorts of free college courses for self study. http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/ (It's not just foreign languages, it has damn near anything). I got the teacher's book and work book for the online courses in German for under $2 and I'm going to spend a LOT of time getting to know my books. LOL. If you don't want to mark up the workbooks or books, you can always just keep a notebook like I do. I also got a book from the bookstore which is all excersises on French verbs.
I'll definitely check out LiveMocha as well as Lang-8. I heard of Mocha but not Lang-8. My parents retired to Tennessee so I currently live in B.F. Tennessee. Having been born and raised in Long Island, the foreign language I hear regularly is Southern. LOL. Just kidding. There's a lot of native Spanish, Asians, and Indians scattered around too. I'll keep an eye out for something closer to home.
