OfflineI've been studying Dutch on my own for about a year now. My level is around "A 0.5"
. I would really like to improve my Dutch reading comprehension skills, therefore my mission this summer will be to read "Harry Potter en de Steen der Wijzen" (Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone) while only consulting a dictionary 3 times/page (on average). I am going to focus my studies on Dutch vocabulary, as I have the absolute basics of Dutch grammar down fairly well (though I will certainly study this a bit along the way). I will begin with reading elementary-level Dutch books and go from there.
I have a copy of this book, so I'm all set there. However, I recently moved, so I need to locate this book as well as my Dutch dictionary and "200 Dutch Verbs". I have probably 20 boxes marked "books", so I'm in trouble!
Does anyone know if there is a Dutch equivalent to the following book: German Quickly: A Grammar for Reading German? I picked up this book a couple of months ago, with a goal of learning to read German, but I've decided to focus on Dutch for the foreseeable future. It would be great if I could locate a book that focuses on learning to read Dutch.
I will reply to this post with updates on my progress.
Tom

Heyy, much luck with your language studies! Dutch is my favorite language too. I don't use that many paper resources myself, but if you need a book about grammar I'd definitely have to recommend you Dutch: A Comprehensive Grammar (it's by Bruce Donaldson). This book is intended for readers on a somewhat higher level but you're going to need it someday anyway.
DutchGrammar.Com also has some "chapters" about Dutch grammar which are pretty challenging.

OfflineHallo Hekje,
Dank je voor de goede wensen. Je Nederlands is veel beter dan de mijn! Het is leuk om iemand te zien in de Verenigde Staten die studeert het Nederlands. Er zijn niet veel van ons!
Ik heb gezien dat boek voor online. Het ziet er intimiderend!
DutchGrammar.com is een heel goede site.
Je kan zien dat Ik heb een weg te gaan met mijn taalstudie, maar dit is heel nuttig. Bedankt!
Tot Ziens
Thank you for the well wishes. Your Dutch is much better than mine! It's nice to see someone in the United States who is studying Dutch. There are not many of us!
I have seen that book online. It looks intimidating!

You can see that I have a long way to go with my language study, but this is very helpful. Thanks!
So long,
