Hey guys, my name is Ryan. I've been on this forum before. I'm sixteen years old. I've been learning Greek very on and off for a few months and I love it. My goal is going to be to record myself in Greek and post it on Soundcloud every day for a month.

Here's my first for July 14th, 2012. If anyone knows how to embed Soundcloud files, I would really appreciate your advice.

This is a seriously cool idea for a mission.

Why Greek? Other than it's awesome?

Thanks! Yeah, because my Aunt speaks it, because my cousin lives in Greece, and because it's awesome. Another recording is incoming today.

Day Fiiive.

(I need to remember to say "ehh" or "hmm" instead of the English words "uhh" and "umm".)

Day Six!

Είναι σωστή η χρήση μου της λέξης "αυλή"; (Did I use the word "αυλή" correctly?)

Day seven.

(Gun laws in the states aren't strong enough.)

I think gun violence in the US is a lost cause. Terrible what's happened in Colorado. RIP.

Day ten. (One third of the way theere!)

Day eleeeven.

(I couldn't think of anything interesting to say*, so I read from a forum post)

* i.e. I'm tired and didn't feel like putting in the effort to think of something. I will do better than that tomorrow!…hopefully.

Day twelve!

Day thirteen!

(In today's recording I begin [and end] by explaining why I didn't record yesterday.)

^ This says day twelve, but it does still lead to day thirteen.

Hey, I don't know anything about Greek, but kudos to you for your hard work so far. I've listened to a couple, sounds cool. :)

On to day 30!

I commend your goal to record yourself in Greek every day for a month. I've listened to a few of your recordings and you're doing very well! The more you practice speaking the language especially out loud not only will you become more fluent in conversation but your confidence will rise.  Greek is not as hard of a language to acquire as most would think. Greek is a phonetic language which comes in handy especially when reading and writing as a beginner (learning the alphabet is truly the gateway to success) .  I've recently guided my fiance in their goal to master the language over a short period of time. With our experience, language books in Greek often use outdated vocabulary and have incorrect or confusing pronunciations.  A suggestion if I may, would be to immerse yourself in Greek culture, not directly but indirectly through music and videos of television shows, broadcasts, etc. The ability to hear the language also helps establish good pronunciation. Listening to music and then translating the lyrics back and forth from Greek to English ( a good website is allthelyrics.com) along with watching an array of different videos helped him acquire a significant amount of vocabulary in a matter of weeks. I hope you continue with your tremendous progress and in no time you will be speaking Greek like a native!  smile

I've definitely got to be more diligent in recording every day.
