Last week our Spanish teacher let us to watch short film and then gave us the script and explained all the words there. I think it's very good practice because it is live language, not "could you pass me the scone please" phrases which students remember but natives never use.

And I remembered the other which I saw earlier with English subtitles which is much more simple: 

Also, I subscribed onto letters about the life in Barcelona and Madrid which are written in very informal way so it's nicer to read them then any news from newspapers (even though I cannot visit places they tell about). Here is one last Madrid issue: http://madrid.lecool.com/madrid/es/issue/806.

Also, I did a lot of watching as I wanted to. I watched old episodes of Ben&Marina Notes In Spanish videoblog (for example, like this one) and also I found very funny youtube video about books as a type of brand new gadgets. I laughed a lot!

I came to tell a bit about my progress. I have got it both in reading and watching series!

Well, I'm digging Orgullo y prejuicio more. Now I'm at the 301st page (almost 30%) which makes me proud. I have to look up words at the dictionary less a lot. I get the plot well and I also am fascinated with the characters.

I had no luck with "Aquíno hay quien viva" because of fast speaking and letters eating. But I did had luck with "The fifth element" movie in Spanish. Also, I easily watch Cómo conocí a vuestra madre without subtitles. It was really a relief.

My spanish teacher told me that in case of dubbed series I get very neutral, simple Spanish. Spanish of none country. It makes dubbed series a first stage to help myself understand real spanish series in some time. Which is my goal, apparently :)

But I'm very happy I almost understand some series in simple spanish. It helps me not to stop.

Sorry, I haven't been here for a while and didn't notice your question before.

Well, I see the same thing with english ones sometimes, maybe someone is trying to translate subs into spanish (or english) from another language and doesn't know he could just write down the audio?

Not so many people use subtitles on the same language as they hear audio in the movie (it seems more educational then relaxating) but they do use subtitles in their native language to make foreign movies understandable so the problem you named is not a problem for most people I think.

Why translators do not use the proper translation from the audio and make up something on their own – that is the question :) But I remember people who made subtitles in russian for new movies days or months before the movie was properly translated (as with Harry Potter books, fans translated awfully but rapidly). Maybe that's the case.

Estoy muy contenta porque tengo algo para decir a vosotros.

Mi misión para este discusión esta acabando. Ahora esta el nueve de febrero y tengo que pensar sobre mi progreso con español. Estoy en el nivel B1 después de un año y media de estudios. Por suerte, tenia no solamente mis cursos con los profesoras hispanohablantes pero también un poco de tiempo para español en mi vida diaria. Puedes saber como esto fue posible más arriba.

En este momento veo "Para vestir santos", leo "El diario de Bridget Jones", pienso sobre un vuelo a Barcelona. Puedo decir que conseguí mi objetivo porque puedo ver las series argentinas sin subtitulas y entender casi todo. Me siento vigoroso y virtuoso.

Muchas gracias a este foro y a la gente alrededor de mi. Es muy importante tener el objetivo y pensar en lo para llegar allí. Me gustaría que todos los demás escriban su objetos aquí y los conseguirán. Decid me lo que queréis sobre mi historia o sobre Rusia.

I'm happy to be here because I want to end this discussion with what I got since I posted here for the first time.

I have approximately B1 level Spanish knowledge now and I think that is nice for lazy learning while hard-working! :)

I wanna say many thanks to Benny because of the forum, because of his advices (including "do not try to learn Spanish and French from the A1 level together, you will mix them up a lot") and because of opportunity to tell the world (OK, those who read this discussion, and still) about my aim and progress in achieving it. All these things really helped a lot.

And, sure, thank you – all the people who commented here! I felt nicer because of you.

I think now I need a new aim. I will post a link here when I will be ready. You need to be pregnant with an idea, you need to live with it and only in some time after that you will get the result ;)

When i learned Spanish. I watched a lot of movies with spanish subtitles… the first 5 or 6 movies, I didn't understand much but I push myself. It got easier. I can now see Spanish movies without any problem. It helped me a lot to learn the language. I am a lazy learner so it helped learn pasively. buena suerte!!!
