Well, good to see you're back!

I wonder what you think about the following group:

http://www.lastfm.de/label/hemden

Notice that you can download mp3s of complete songs, even though the preview only plays a section of their songs.

(BTW, they are a "indy" in the strictest sense of the word – a bunch of teachers who really play for the fun of it. They are virtually unknown and I wouldn't have heard about them if it weren't for a personal recommendation by a former student of them…)

Hmm…I downloaded their songs and while its not Rammstein, I must say I kinda like their sound. Thanks for the suggestion!

So another update on Rosetta Stone… still enjoying it on day 4, although it is rather repetitive. Its funny though because I guess this method really DOES ingrain this stuff in your brain. I know what ein belegte brot is and when I first saw that phrase, I was sure I would never remember it. On Rosetta Stone's interactive online games, I spoke with 2 (American) learners of German and while I spoke some English and I wasn't speaking with natives, it was still nice (yet somewhat scary) to speak German with someone else. I have the most trouble with gender of nouns, but I figure in conversations, if i don't know the gender I will just say it quicker so the other person wont be able to tell :P

However, other than RS and my small anki deck, I have been slacking yet AGAIN. Its irritating because I could be improving so much but I'm just hindering my progress. I need to come up with a plan and stick to it. Or I could just not be so structured and just try to learn a bit each day but I have this need to make a schedule and plan out exactly what Im going to do (maybe a touch of OCD, I dunno) . I definitely have to get back into watching German movies though and listening to Rammstein (and now, Hemden :) ) more. And reading. Ok, so pretty much everything lol.  It was good to actually talk to someone in German though.. Oh and this Friday, I have a studio session in RS- there will be a native speaking teacher and up to 3 other learners joining me in a conversation (pretty sure Benny talks about this in his review) and then I have another one next Monday so I'm excited about those :) Maybe I'll get lucky enough to be the only one in the class…

Adding a few more words to my anki and then I have to get ready for work :(

Bis Später!

Ugh Im sooo nervous! About to start my first live session lesson on Rosetta Stone. I'm just afraid that my spoken German won't be to the level of the others and I'll sound stupid but I know that these spoken lessons are crucial to my fluency.

I'll probably update in an hour, when my session is over :)

Don't be afraid – The more you try, the more you learn. This is a fundamental step to fluency.

Finished my first live studio session around 11:30 and I loved it! I was with 2 other learners and I was relieved to see that I knew as much as one of the people (who is on Level 1 Unit 4 but was taking the Level 1 Unit 1 session) and that I knew a LOT more than the other person. My coach was a very nice guy named Martin and although I was wicked nervous at first, I quickly warmed up to the whole experience and had fun :) My Level 1 Unit 2 session is Monday morning but I might do another Unit 1 session later today. It will be the same material but will give me more practice speaking and since I'm doing the $20/month plan, I have unlimited studio sessions. Hell, I might even take 1 every day, just for speaking practice :)

Rosetta Stone just made their Italian course one of the $20/month and I'm really tempted to sign up for that too but I think I'm going to wait until my German is more advanced. However, if the Spanish or French go on the $20/month plan I am definitely signing up since I really want to learn those two (and living in the US, where Spanish is very necessary and also living close to the Canadian border, where French is very helpful, knowing these 2 languages will greatly benefit me).

I know this system is not very well received in this forum and I was skeptical at first, but I must say that I really enjoy it and I feel like I am retaining a lot of the material.

Which films have you watched so far? Are you still following your "watch one film per week" schedule?

I recall you mentioning your "Das Leben der Anderen" DVD – don't hesitate any longer, I highly recommend it…

No, I suck hardcore :( I have been slacking on all language learning lately. Started Spanish Rosetta Stone and trying to not let German take a backseat. I have today off from work so I think I might watch "Das Leben der Anderen", as it sounds like a movie that would really interest me even in my own language :)

So far, for German movies, I have only watched "Good Bye, Lenin!", "The Edukators", "Sophie Scholl" and I'm trying to convince myself that "Inglourious Basterds" counts, since there is a lot of German in it :P Freaking love that movie so its been on heavy replay as of late. Oh, a few months back, I watched this movie called "7 Dwarfs" in German on Netflix. It was pretty entertaining and funny :) And also, the movie "Fräulein" was on tv and I watched that, although that was kinda weird.
