Actually now that we've hit 40 degrees its a question I'm asking myself a lot. Well, my partner bought a small flat in Antalya as an investment but we were really fed up with the bad weather in London and so decided to move here for a trial. Actually, the flat hasn't even been built yet its only 54% done and way past completion date, to make ammends the building company has given us keys to a nice duplex in Konyaalti so for the moment this is where we are.

Mission this week – its OK to be wrong

I think one of the key things about learning a language is not to panic in real life and not to be afraid to ask people to slow down. Or example, last week in the market I did get a bit flustered and instead of wishing the stall holder good day I wished him goodnight. I knew it was a mistake as soon as I had said it, I think it was just in a state of pressure that I said the first thing that came to my head. No matter at least I’m trying. Also yesterday in the Simit shop, instead of saying Tesekkuler I actually said Lutfen. I really don’t know why it reminds me of all those foreign language speakers in London who do the same thing.

I have a friend in Antalya, well sort of, he’s a sworn translator and anyway he assured me that it’s great to make mistakes. Mistakes are Just part of the learning process because you don’t forget your mistakes. My goal this week is not to take myself too seriously and to carry on regardless.

Just out of curiosity – is your partner Turkish or did you just choose a random place on Earth to live in?

ps: nevermind – I had overlooked the fact that he (she?) had bought the flat as an investment. Duh.
