Hello,

little addendum:

To miss: missen. The word vermissen doesn't exist.wink

typo: SCHRIJVEN. The combination 'ij' is pronounced just as 'ei'.

Native: Dutch. Fluent: English, French. Learning: Swedish, Spanish, Italian, German.

I'm sorry for my last post :-/. Vermissen does exist, you never see it in the infinitive, that's why I was mislead :-) .

When somebody is gone missing, you say: hij/zij is vermist. This is only used in abduction situations though.

When you can't find something, you can say: ik vind mijn boek niet.

'Missen' is mostly only used to translate 'Miss' when you stress the emotional problem of not having something. Like in italian 'mi manca' or spanish 'mi falta'.

ex: I miss you => Ik mis je.

Native: Dutch. Fluent: English, French. Learning: Swedish, Spanish, Italian, German.

Oooups, sorry for that, it's MISSEN not vermissen. smile

It's a problem which I'ev sometimes when I mix German and Dutch. In German it's VERMISSEN.

The other problem I have with German and Dutch, is to remember : zich herinneren or sich erninnern. I can't remember in whcih langauge is the H, this is difficult because I'm useless with the H, generally, to correctly pronounce it when you must, or not to do also!! confused

Then for example I've said sometimes "Er sagte gegen ihr" when I wanted to say only "er sagte zu ihr" or "er sagte ihr" but in Dutch it's with TEGEN, but in german interpreted as against frown So confusing this two similar languages !!

greetings from kuikentje
