Every 3 months, a user at how-to-learn-any-language.com hosts a 6 week challenge (6WC), which allows participants to intensively study a new language and log their hours/activities through twitter. A twitter bot keeps track of high scores, adding an element of competition (similar to the tadoku reading challenge that some of you might be familiar with). I've participated in a 6WC with Spanish in the past, and I found that the competition was a huge motivator, to the point that I was constantly thinking, "how can I get in a few more minutes of Spanish right now?" I also appreciated that the twitter bot charts your study time in each activity, so you can see what percent of your target language time is dedicated to SRS, speaking, TV, or whatever other category you decide to make.

All you need to participate is a twitter account and a new language to study. The language must be B1 level (lower intermediate) at the highest so that everyone is starting on more or less the same ground. Other languages that you study can also be logged, but won't count toward the high score. Also note that you can only log, say, 20 minutes if you were fully focused on the language for 20 minutes, and that you should half or quarter the time you log for "listening in the background" type of activities.

Instructions for signing up and posting updates can be found at http://6wc.learnlangs.com/howto . Notice that you have the option of affiliating yourself with a website, so your performance will prove to the world the awesomeness of the fi3m method Cool

I'll be participating as @bri_thought with Esperanto. Hope to see some of you there!

This is a great idea... I think I am going to do it with Afrikaans because I've forgotten almost everything I've learnt at school surprised

And also German when my father sends me some more resources laugh

So I'll see you there soon!
