The Goal

Hey guys, my name is Luke Moglia, and i am embarking on a Super Crazy Spanish Mission where try to become fluent in Spanish In 6 months.

What do i mean be fluent?

I want to be Upper C1 – lower C2.

I wish to be able to read and listen at a C2 level so that i can watch TV listen to the radio, and read novels with ease with no need for a dictionary/subtitles at all!.

As for speaking, well i want to be at a C1 level where i can "express him/herself fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions." And "Can use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes.", which is the criteria that Wikipedia cites for a C1 level Speaker.

Why am i doing this?

In the future, i want to work as an electrical and electronic engineer across Europe so i can sample different cultures and feed my love for languages ( think ive caught the language learning bug) and still work as an engineer (childhood dream). So the combination of all that will make for a dream life style for me:D

Whats my language background?

Well i studied Spanish at school for a year but never really grasped it. (actually spent most of my spanish lessons sat at the back doing nothing at all!) so besides that i have no language background at all.

How do i expect to achieve this goal?

First month – I will memorize 5000 most common words of the Spanish language using ANKI. This should give me a good core or useful words.

Second month – I will begin my reading, i will try to finish one novel per week for 7 weeks (so will then pass into 3rd month, (plan on using the harry potter books) The more i read hopefully i will become more fluent in reading and can start to use the audio books and read along building up my listening comprehension. also i will begin to start studying grammar at the start on the second month. for this i plan on using the assimil book, as it has great grammatical explanations, also i will try and find another grammer book to study from. i will practice speaking with my self.

Third month – I will begin skyping natives in spanish, and try and use only spanish. to build up my convastional skills. i will also be carrying on with the listen/read of the books. and at this point i will also start watching films in spanish with sub titles at first, then weening my self off them slowly. Also once i have mastered my most common 5000 word deck on ANKI i will start inputting the Assimil lessons into a ANKI deck and begin reviewing them, trying to study 50 sentences per day.

fourth month – much the same as the third month, although i will start listening to books with out reading and reading with out listening to books. Also i will be taking the sentences from the assimil "using spanish" course and inputting them into ANKI for review.

Fifth month – i will do the same as month four however will start to watch the news in spanish.

Sixth month – this will be a last dash to fluency as i try to reduce my accent as much as possible.

thanks!!

ANKI says that i have met roughly 1000 words already, so im on target to hit 3000 words by the end of the month, which should be more than enough to start extensive reading:D

bye!

did 200 new words yesterday, so had around 350 reviews today, and im also doing 200 new words today. going to keep aiming for 200 new words per day and see if i can keep up with the work, if i start to burn out i may drop to 175 or 150 words a day but for now im fine :)

i feel like 85 – 90 % of all the words im learning are sticking, so after the first day i can review them and click confident on anki on the first day each time. so im fairly please with this :)

dropped back down to 100 words today, felt like 200 words was too much, the reviews were stacking up, and i had 300 odd each day which is too much and i just started to burn out a little.

How ever on a better note, think im booking a holiday to ibiza with the lads for this summer, so hopefully i can get some cheeky spanish practise in!

did my 100 words today, reviews are still a ball ache, should never have done 200 new words for those two days, you cant get through the reviews and i felt like my memorization rate was hurt as i had to click hard a lot. so i think ill stick with 100 words a day for now.

Hey! Fully support you on this mission! I am planning to take the C2 exam this year as well.

I have been learning Spanish since August, and really focused on it since early December. I just spent three weeks in Spain and I could have basic conversations and understand people when they talked slow. But still got a long way to go.

What kind of word lists are you using for Anki?

Keep on rocking!cool
