Here are the resources I consider essential to learn how to speak Spanish.
Where to Start Learning Spanish
I recommend starting out with one of my top language guides:
Why Spanish is Easy – This is my go-to guide for Spanish learners that’s packed to bursting with hacks for learning Spanish faster and speaking Spanish sooner.
Language Hacking Spanish – My Spanish course for beginners published with Teach Yourself, that will get you speaking Spanish from day 1.
MORE FAVOURITE COURSES & APPS TO GIVE YOUR SPANISH A BOOST
SpanishPod101 – This is my favourite audio Spanish course. This course is much better value than more famous audio courses, and in my opinion it’s way better!
CoffeeBreak Spanish – This more structured audio course is the favourite of my teacher Lea. They’ll guide you from the absolute basics of Spanish right up to an advanced level, with very encouraging teachers.
HelloTalk – is a smartphone app that connects you with native Spanish speakers for free. You can use it to send text messages and audio clips. After you sign up, message the team with the code “Fi3M” to get the premium features free for three months!
SPANISH SPEAKING TOOLS: PRACTICE WITH NATIVE SPEAKERS
Speak from day one is my approach to any new language. I have one tool I recommend for this:
Italki – connects you with native Spanish speakers for spoken practice on Skype. You can pay Spanish tutors for (affordable) one-to-one video lessons, or find a free language exchange partner! This link takes you right to the Spanish tutors on the site.
SPANISH LISTENING AND PRONUNCIATION RESOURCES
Mimic Method Spanish – Accent training with Idahosa Ness that’s designed to help you sound more like a native Spanish speaker.
Fluentu Spanish – Spanish videos with English and Spanish subtitles. My favourite feature is the hover dictionary!
SPANISH LEARNING WEBSITES YOU MUST BOOKMARK TODAY
You’ll return to these resources again and again in your Spanish study sessions.
Forvo – find out how any Spanish word is pronounced. Just type the word you’re looking for into the search bar in Spanish!
Wordreference – A dictionary with a difference, as all words include a discussion thread about their subtle meanings.
