Benny Coaches a Beginner to Learn Esperanto in Six Weeks [Video]
In May 2014, I set up a six-week language mission that was different from my usual projects. Rather than learn a new language myself, I coached a beginner as they started learning Esperanto for the Polyglot Gathering in Berlin.
At the time, I had decided to spend the year improving languages I already spoke. Coaching a beginner gave me a way to test the mission approach from the other side.
From the blog’s origin era (2009–2014), kept as lived proof of the method. See all the missions.
This short video introduced the project:
Six weeks was not a universal promise. This project had a specific learner, a real event and a concrete target: use Esperanto socially at the Polyglot Gathering. The learner shared weekly updates, and the final video shows them using Esperanto socially at the event.
The useful pattern is goal → deadline → regular speaking → a real situation where the language matters. Pick a result you can observe, then work backwards to the conversations you will need.
You can follow the current Fluent in 3 Months YouTube channel for newer language projects. If you want support building your own speaking mission, see the Fluent in 3 Months Bootcamp.
